Cancer free pizza party!

Posted on Dec 11, 2013 by | 2 comments

Today we got wonderful news. The results of his bone marrow aspirate came back and his MRD (how much disease still remains) was… 0!!! That means that as of now, Mac’s body is cancer free! It brought tears to my eyes when I got to tell Jeremy the great news. So he is now considered in remission! This doesn’t change anything with his treatment plan. He will still do 4 cycles of chemo. (well we’ve already completed 1 cycle) They will do a bone marrow test after each cycle to make sure he is still at 0. He is low-risk and bone marrow transplant isn’t on the horizon. It is wonderful that is body responded so well to the chemo.

The doctor explained to us that at this point, the cancer is no longer fatal. However, the risk for infection during each cycle is high and an infection could be fatal. That is why with AML, the hospital stays are so lengthy. If we are here, they can monitor him closely and jump on any infection he might get. Too bad its flu season, but thankfully the hospital has flu season restrictions that will help keep him healthy.

He threw up much less today which was great. He is however, super fussy. The doctor said that these chemo meds are very intense and fussiness doesn’t surprise her.

So we decided to celebrate with Mac by having a pizza party- just the three of us! He seemed to like sucking on the pizza and bread sticks!:) so cute

I just want to say thank you again to everyone for your love and support! You strengthen us more than you know!
