Day 3
I seriously can’t believe we’ve only been here 3 days! Time in the hospital goes soooo slow. We checked in Monday and he had his bone marrow aspirate, spinal chemo, an ECHO, an EKG and started regular IV chemo. It was a big day.
Unfortunately the last 3 days haven’t been so great for Mac. Soon after his first dose of chemo, we could tell that he didn’t feel well. He is feeling all of the side effects of the chemo this time. It produces flu like symptoms: nausea, vomiting, tired, achy, etc. Poor baby has been really fussy and tired but he’s been fighting his sleep. He finally went to sleep at 3:30am this morning. He’s felt so hot to me the past couple days and I’ve just been waiting for the fever. Last night he spiked a fever and that has continued into today. They drew cultures to see if there is bacteria in his bloodstream but hopefully the fever is just a side effect of the chemo he’s having. He has also developed the rash associated with the chemo and it is wide spread. Luckily he is nursing great. Last night he was crying and I couldn’t console him. He finally threw up and within minutes he was smiling and asking for milk. Its the worst to see him in pain and feeling horrible. Every day that goes by I tell Mac, this is the last Day 1, Day 2, Day 3 that you will have. This is it. Cycle 4 of 4. I wish there was more I could do for him.
I feel blessed to be here with nurses that love Mac. There are special people in this world. Its so neat that Mac recognizes a select few of them when they come through the door. The picture is of his “BFF” Rebecca. He LOVES her. Today the doctor was in checking on him and she said, “he seems better today”. Well Rebecca was in the room playing with him and I said, “I don’t say this to flatter her but he’s really just like this because she’s in here”. ๐ Its true. We also lucked out to have one of our favorite docs here this week!
Thanks for all of the prayers and love for Mac! Don’t forget to send me pictures of you wearing Team Mac wristbands!
